How to learn audio creation/editing?

What's the best tutorial or pdf etc? I know the best way is to just tinker and mess around until you learn it but I'd rather not mes around for years to get good at it. I just want to know what I'm doing so u can get the song in my head down on the computer. I currently an using FlStudio 9
