Soldering or joining flat top battery ends with strips of metal?

I need to join the ends of 6 AA size batteries together to replace an old battery pack. The ends of the batteries in the old pack are joined by little strips of metal that are tacked on by a hot iron. Does anyone know where to get this so I don't have to bother with wire soldering? I'm not a pro, I don't have a lot of equipment, I just tinker in my kitchen. I do have a soldering iron. Thanks.
