How do you edit pictures on a Canon Rebel T3 (EOS)?

My husband got me a Canon Rebel T3 for Mother's Day. I have tinkered around on my parent's professional Nikon camera and was able to trim and lighten the pics on their camera. I can't find a way to do it on my Canon. I am guessing I should get some editing program? I LOVE the pics it takes, and it is super easy to use. I am just overwhemled about editing the pics. Is there a different comparable camera you recommend or an easy way to edit them??? Help!!!!!!
