Christians: If the Gospel is somehow 'written on the hearts' of those who have not had contact with a Bible...?

...(i.e. the millions of people throughout history who have lived entirely remotely from Christianity), shouldn't we see examples of Christianity in various forms springing up independently among the many thousands of religions which have appeared in the world? If so, where and when did this occur?
